Of course, there were many victims of the militarists during WWII and before. However, if I were an old Korean woman with no life, I would make up stories about comfort women so I could become a hero to my people and extort money from the Japanese government. It's common sense. It's not about apologies. There have been many of those. It's about saying whatever the lawyers tell you to say to get cash.

i have no hatred towards Japan; a recognition of history is not a condemnation of the current regime or the modern day japanese. i have no hatred towards the Germans, but the Holocaust cannot be denied; nor do I have hatred for the whites of America but the systematic violence they have perpetrated against peoples of color should not be driven into the shadows in the interest of not offending anyone...

the Japanese government has activelly engaged in forced forgetting. the only way to reconcile with one's history is to come face to face with it. by denying the reality and validity of the charges, Japan has perpetrated further violence on the women who have already suffered so much. those who ignore history are bound to repeat it, so the Japanese education ministry has chosen to expunge the memory of these attrocities from children's textbooks; clinging to a cleaned up version of their history.

As a non-Japanese, when you look at the atrocities committed by the militarists, who seized power from the elected representatives of the Japanese people through assassination, you can judge "Japan," this has the following effects: 1. You get to feel superior to "Japan," because of your moral outrage. 2. Your hatred for Japan is justified by your moral outrage, so you don't need to repent for your hatred. Therefore, you get to be an unrepentant hater, and tool of politics.

You are not a historian. You have not read the original sources and rely on secondary sources, some created for political ends. Thus, you are not a professional in this area. If you want to best serve "humanity," you can do it by focusing on things you can influence, like the crimes going on now. This is more useful than promoting race hatred against "Japan." Japan is a democracy, but the crimes were committed by militarists who undermined democracy and seized power, and were punished or died.
